Allison Brooks, Ph.D.
Clinic Director
Allison is a licensed psychologist who earned her Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of Washington, and completed clinical internships in medical centers in and near Seattle. Allison has extensive experience providing clinical services to children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, ADHD, and anxiety and mood disorders. Allison co-founded Brooks Powers Group in 2006 and heads the Clinical Services team, where she provides neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessment as well as treatment for children and adolescents and their families. Allison consults with families and with schools to provide support for children with special needs.
Tom Powers, Ph.D., BCBA
Co-Owner and Consulting Director
Tom is a certified school psychologist, teacher, and Board-Certified Behavior Analyst who earned his Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Washington. Tom gained much of his clinical experience at Seattle Children’s Hospital, where he served on treatment teams for children with chronic illnesses, emotional and behavioral disorders, pervasive pain disorders, and eating disorders. In 2006 Tom co-founded Brooks Powers Group. Over the years Tom has served in various clinical and operational capacities. He currently remains involved as a consulting director and mentor to staff as they take on increasing responsibilities.
Jodi Swofford
Clinic Coordinator
Jodi comes to Brooks Powers Group with a variety of educational and life experiences. She has worked as a kindergarten teacher in West Africa, a teacher and instructor in an ASD classroom, and a hospice nurse assistant, among many other professional and volunteer roles. Her supportive role as the Clinic Coordinator has her answering questions, scheduling appointments, handling client and company accounts, and managing administrative duties for staff.
Stephen Ottinger, Ph.D.
Director of Operations
Stephen is a licensed psychologist who earned his Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of Washington. Stephen started working with BPG in 2017 and provides in-clinic individual counseling and parent coaching for mental and behavioral health needs, psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations, and consultation with individuals and school teams. Stephen’s evaluations bridge a wide range of needs including academics, cognitive, social/emotional skills, executive functioning, mental and behavioral health, and related needs. He also provides diagnostic evaluation for ADHD, Autism, learning disabilities, mental health challenges, or related concerns. Stephen is trained in the parenting program Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) to support children and families working to manage anxiety. He also brings expertise in understanding and navigating special education services, including Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE), Individual Educational Programs (IEP), and Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans (FBAs/BIPs). Stephen provides consultation, coaching, and training with schools at the team, building, and district levels focusing on sustainable implementation of evidence-based practices for multi-tiered systems of supports (MTSS), trauma-informed practices, and mental health supports in schools. As part of the Brooks Powers team, Stephen is passionate about improving child mental health and wellness, increasing positive outcomes in school, and building systems of support that meet school and individual needs.
Kire Dassel, M.Ed.
Director of School Services
Kire is a Certified Special Education Teacher and earned her Masters in Education with a focus on Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities from University of Washington in 2005. She brings over 17 years of experience directly supporting and teaching children and training their care teams to develop effective educational programs. She has worked directly in schools, clinics, homes, and in treatment facilities. Kire leads our school team with supervising and coordinating school-focused coaching and trainings. In her direct work with schools, she supports teams to create sustainable plans to help children meet their educational goals. Kire trains and supports school personnel and other care providers to develop and implement positive specific behavior support programs across settings. She also provides guidance and training to teams to build evidence-based school programs and systems to support children. Kire’s clientele includes young children, adolescents, and young adults with a wide range of disabilities and presentations including various learning disabilities, cognitive impairments, emotional and behavioral disorders, communication disorders, and psychiatric issues. Kire has given multiple small and large group school trainings, including topics on positive behavior support, self-regulation skills, understanding behavior, the power of play with young children, and mental and behavioral health in schools.
Abby Kensok, LMFT
Director of Counseling Services
Abby is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in working with children and adolescents and their families. Abby earned her Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) degree from Seattle Pacific University in 2010. Abby gained six years of experience working at Seattle Children’s Hospital on the Psychiatry and Behavioral Medical Unit (PBMU) as a behavioral technician and as the primary educational consultant in one of the classrooms. Abby worked with Brooks Powers Group as an educational and behavioral consultant while completing her clinical training at Navos Mental Health and returned to Brooks Powers Group after becoming licensed in 2012. As Director of Counseling Services, Abby leads the Counseling Team, communicates with incoming counseling clients, coordinates therapeutic services and provides clinical supervision to staff working toward their counseling license. Abby works with children and adolescents experiencing challenges related to anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, emotion regulation issues, externalizing behaviors, school refusal and transitioning to adulthood. She provides individual, parent, and family therapy, as well as school-based counseling and consultation. Abby uses an integrated therapeutic approach and draws from various therapies such Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical and Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Activation, Solution Focused Therapy and Family Systems Theory. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is at the center of Abby’s work with clients. She works to meet clients where they are and draws upon their strengths to help them achieve their goals.
Heather Davis, Ph.D.
Director of Psychological Services
Heather is a licensed pediatric neuropsychologist who earned her Ph.D. at Seattle Pacific University. She completed an APA accredited internship in Clinical Psychology at the University of Minnesota Medical School and Children’s Hospital focusing on pediatric neuropsychology. As Director of Psychological Services, Heather leads the Assessment Team, coordinating psychoeducational and neuropsychological assessments and consulting with school districts in Washington state to support the needs of a diverse group of children and families through district directed and independent education evaluations (IEEs). Heather specializes in neuropsychological assessments, pediatric (infancy to late adolescence) mental health, parent coaching, neurodevelopmental disorders including Autism, ADHD, learning and intellectual disabilities, externalizing behavior challenges, childhood trauma, mood and anxiety disorders. Heather has worked in a wide array of clinical settings including delivering intervention within hospital settings, intensive outpatient clinics, a childhood residential treatment facility, clinical research settings and school-based behavioral coaching and social skills instruction. In addition, Heather has extensive experience in clinical research through Seattle Pacific University and the University of South Florida. This research experience has created a strong passion for evidence-based treatment and an expertise in monitoring infants and children at risk for Autism Spectrum Disorders, early diagnosis, and intervention. Heather has participated in clinical and research training and certification for administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) from the University of Michigan Autism & Communication Disorders Center (UMACC). In addition, Heather is a certified provider for many evidence-based treatment programs including the Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) program and the Incredible Years (IY) Parent and Child Programs which she does through her private practice. Heather uses an integrated therapeutic approach and draws from various therapies such as CBT, DBT, ACT, Behavioral Activation, Solution Focused and Family Systems Theory. Heather is dedicated to working collaboratively with children, their families, and their community system to provide a safe and supportive environment surrounding pediatric mental health.
Caroline Renkin, M.Ed., BCBA
Assistant Director of School Behavior Services
Caroline is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and received her Master’s of Education in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of Washington. Her extensive experience includes providing early intervention in Project DATA at UW’s Experimental Education Unit, as well as serving as an instructor at the NYC Autism Charter School. Her work with Brooks Powers Group encompasses conducting Functional Behavior Assessments, school and home observations, the development and implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans, parent coaching, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to improve the mental and behavioral health of students and their caretakers. A favorite aspect of her work is customizing and providing trainings and workshops to a variety of audiences to support professional development. Caroline believes strongly in creating a more inclusive community with greater access to educational, social, and cultural opportunities for everyone.
Dorothy Bearson, Ed.S.
School Re-Engagement Specialist
Dorothy is a licensed Mental Health Counselor, certified school psychologist and teacher who earned her Ed.S in School Psychology from the University of Washington. Over the years Dorothy has worked in a wide range of grades, at both public and private schools in Washington. This has expanded her knowledge of school-based needs for our children. Her work as a Behavior Specialist in the school’s added to her expertise in building child-based intervention plans, teaming with school staff and providing counseling in the school setting. In addition, she worked in community mental health at Comprehensive Mental Health in Tacoma. Her work there included direct counseling for students with Depression, Suicidal Ideations, Self-Harming behaviors, Anxiety, ASD, ADHD and Emotion Regulation difficulties as well as providing DBT and Social Skills group therapy. Here at Brooks Powers Group Dorothy provides in-clinic and in-home counseling services including individual, family and parent support. She also works closely with a local district to build and implement programs meant to support students who struggle to get to school every day. The focus in this work is on the daily engagement of every student in their academic setting in a positive way. Dorothy is joined in her work by her fuzzy assistant, Si, a Therapy Dog who works to support children and their families as they overcome and grow through all kinds of challenges. Si is an Aussiedoodle (that means he’s hypoallergenic!!) who is working on his AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification to be followed shortly thereafter by full Therapy Dog certification thanks to all his hard work, training and time working with individuals at the clinic and in the community. Together with the Brooks Powers team Dorothy & Si are always working towards their goal of fostering positive mental health for our community’s children.
Shannon Ludeman, PhD
Shannon earned her PhD in School Psychology from the University of Washington. She specializes in working with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities including ADHD, ASD, and OCD. She is passionate about incorporating parent behavioral management training into her practice to support the development of parenting skills to meet the needs of all children. She has experience in a variety of treatment models including CBT, DBT, ABA, and exposure and response prevention. Prior to coming to Brooks Powers Group, Shannon worked as a clinician and researcher at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and the UW Autism Center. Shannon focuses on promoting positive relationships for children and families and developing solutions for problems that are both feasible and effective for long-term change.
Kevin H. Bascom, M.Ed., BCBA
Kevin is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and received his Masters in Education in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of Washington. Kevin has worked in a variety of settings within the fields of special education and applied behavior analysis (ABA), from public school classrooms to private in-home therapy. Kevin has extensive experience delivering early intervention therapy to young children on the autism spectrum. He spent two years in Vietnam working for a local special education agency where he served a diverse population of clients and families. Kevin is well-versed in creating and monitoring behavior plans, conducting assessments, establishing effective data-collection procedures, supervising ABA treatment implementation, and providing training and support to caregivers and staff. Kevin is a passionate ally and advocate for children and strives to help foster a world in which all people can be themselves.
Hugh Stephens
Behavior Support Coach
Hugh has extensive experience implementing behavior plans and providing safe and effective milieu management. Hugh has coached parents in their homes and dealt with difficult and sometimes aggressive behavior. He has helped teachers more effectively run their classrooms for students with special needs. Since 2008, Hugh has worked with Brooks Powers Group to develop and implement behavior plans for challenging students in school districts with disproportionate numbers of poor and ethnic minority students. He works directly with principals, teachers, parents, and paraprofessionals to successfully implement programs that meet the needs of students with emotional and behavioral disabilities.
Jenna Berger
Jenna is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst who earned her Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of Washington and Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Western Washington University. Jenna has extensive experience providing early intervention with young children on the Autism spectrum in clinical and in-home settings. In addition, she has experience developing behavior support plans that address both classroom-wide and student specific needs, and coaching educators with implementation in public schools and early learning centers. Jenna prioritizes child-centered intervention that empowers the students, educators, and parents, through neurodiverse affirming care.
Emalise Luzzo Mitchell, Ed.S, NCSP
Emalise received an Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology from the University of Washington (UW) in 2023. She is a Washington state and nationally certified school psychologist. Emalise is a doctoral candidate pursuing a PhD in School Psychology from UW and completing a pre-doctoral internship at Brooks Powers Group. Emalise brings a range of assessment, intervention, and consultation experiences to her work at Brooks Powers Group. With children in preschool through high school, Emalise has conducted school district special education evaluations in addition to psychoeducational evaluations at the UW School Psychology Clinic. Emalise has provided consultation as well as academic and social-emotional intervention across class-wide, small-group, and one-on-one settings within school districts. In clinical settings, Emalise has provided individual therapy to children with internalizing behaviors at the UW School Psychology Clinic. Emalise received training in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy Adapted for Selective Mutism (PCIT-SM) and participated in a Brave Explorers group therapy program. Additionally, Emalise has experience working in interdisciplinary clinical evaluations at the UW Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Diagnostic and Prevention Network (UW FAS DPN) clinic and at the Seattle Children’s Hospital Specialized Neurodevelopmental Assessment and Consultation Service (SNACS) program. At Brooks Powers Group Emalise conducts psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations, provides individual and family therapy, and consults with families and school districts to support the needs of a diverse group of children. Emalise takes an integrated therapeutic approach, drawing from cognitive-behavioral and social-emotional frameworks. She is collaborative, child-centered, and strengths-based in her work. Emalise is dedicated to helping children through affirming and individualized care, supporting and empowering their entire care team, and fostering inclusive, supportive environments across home, school, and community settings.
Katrina Kerrigan, Ed.S, NCSP
Katrina Kerrigan is a certified School Psychologist who earned her educational specialist degree from the University of Washington, where she is also completing her PhD in School Psychology. She has extensive clinical training in psychoeducational and developmental evaluations across school and clinic-based settings. Additionally, in school districts across the greater Seattle area, Katrina has provided consultation to educators, caregivers, and clinicians as well as implemented a variety of academic and social-emotional interventions in individual, small group, and classroom-wide settings. In the clinical setting, Katrina has provided individual and group therapy to children and adolescents with anxiety and mood disorders at both outpatient and intensive outpatient levels of care. Specifically, Katrina has extensive experience providing Exposure and Response Prevention therapy to adolescents with obsessive compulsive disorder at Seattle Children’s Hospital’s Intensive Outpatient Program. Furthermore, Katrina co-led a multifamily skills group at the Evidence Based Treatment Centers of Seattle where she taught Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills to adolescents and caregivers. Katrina draws from evidence-based therapeutic modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), in an integrated and personalized approach to therapy. Katrina has experience working with children and families from a variety of backgrounds and neurotypes and is passionate about using an engaging, identity-affirming, and strengths-based approach to her work with children and their caregivers.
Cara Guthrie, M.Ed
Cara is in her 4th year in the Child Clinical Psychology PhD program at the University of Washington and is completing a clinical practicum at Brooks Powers Group. Cara brings a diverse blend of clinical and research expertise to her role at Brooks Powers Group. Before beginning graduate training, she worked for three years as a targeted behavioral health case manager supporting children, adolescents, and families in accessing services and building coping skills. She has since provided evidence-based interventions in clinical settings including co-leading multi-family Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills groups and offering individual therapy. Cara is also trained in administering standardized cognitive testing in research settings. Her research in developmental psychopathology and family processes, with a focus on emotion socialization, coping, and parent–child dynamics, grounds her approach in evidence and cultural sensitivity. She takes a collaborative, strengths-based approach and is dedicated to creating a supportive environment where clients and families can grow toward their goals.
Meagan Klemmer, BA
Meagan graduated from Central Washington University with a BA in Psychology. She is currently enrolled at Seattle University, working towards her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Meagan has spent the last four years working as a Registered Behavioral Technician where she has gained extensive experience working with children on the Autism Spectrum and those with social, emotional and behavioral needs. Many of the clients Meagan has worked with have comorbid disorders, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. She helps clients build skills to improve social interactions and communication, increase emotion regulation and coping, and supports clients' sensory needs. Meagan is currently completing her counseling internship at Brooks Powers Group where she provides therapy to children and teens. She also meets with parents and provides consultation to school teams.
